Hello, everybody, welcome to Thursday. It’s a green shirt day today, haven’t worn this enough recently. Very nice day. Matter of fact, this is the best day since March. The S&P 500 was up 1.7% today. There was a slew of good things that happened today. The market started to move yesterday, in the middle of the day, when they started to talk about some plans to try to fix the supply chain. Lots to be said there and lots to be done there, but we’ll see how that works out. But I think that was seen as a positive move.
And then today in the morning, before the market opened, there was jobless claims, so how many people have initially claimed unemployment benefits. It’s at the lowest point that it’s been since the pandemic, so that was great. And then we started to see earnings reports come out, and they were quite good, actually. Especially the big bank earnings, things are going really well there as far as that goes. I think there was some positive upside surprise there. So much has been talked about in the negative side. There’s some room now to have some positive surprise, which is good.
And then really the last thing that happened today, I’ve been talking about this 50 day moving average and how it’s sort of an important trading mechanism that happens. And right at the end of the day, it actually got through that 50 day moving average. So it’s possible we could see kind of a jump off of that. That will be important to see if that does hold tomorrow, the next day, and what have you. So, actually really good day. Lots of good things that were happening. Market is starting to recover from this big long slide that we had starting at the beginning of September. So really fun to watch.
And again, I’m going to talk about a lot of this in my summary tomorrow at the beginning of our Talk Money with Tom show. So if you get a chance, you can join us at 12:15pm to 1:00pm. I’m going to walk through a path that I see as a possible path for the market to kind of get back to a new high here as far as that goes, some of the things that that could happen to create that so look forward to talking to you tomorrow. Thank you very much.
